JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure has grown in popularity in the last few years in the West. So, newcomer fans might like to know which JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure games they can play in English.
Despite its popularity in Japan, game developers have only created a handful of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure games. Unfortunately, even fewer of these have been available in the West. Despite the interest, one thing that has held JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure back globally is licensing issues.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure features numerous characters and attacks that draw inspiration from popular American and British music. During the process of westernizing these games, a considerable number of character and attack names often require alteration to mitigate potential legal complications.
In total, only three full JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure games have made it West.
All JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure games available in English
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure — 1999
The first JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure game was released in the West. It made its debut on the Dreamcast and original PlayStation after a successful arcade run. It was a reasonably well-received fighting game that included 22 playable characters.
Although developed by Capcom, it falls short when compared to superior fighting games and other JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure titles. Therefore, this one is really just for collectors at this point.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle — 2014
All Star Battle is a cult classic Playstation 3 fighting game released in 2014 in the West. There are a total of 41 characters representing most of the manga arcs. Regardless of which Jojo arc you’re most a fan of, there’s something to enjoy here.
An updated version was released for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2022. The remaster includes 10 additional characters. This makes it, technically, the most recent Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure game available.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes of Heaven — 2016
A 3D brawler made with the same engine as JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle. The game features everyone from the previous game but adds 13 new characters. A fun game to have, but the remastered JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle may be a better choice for those looking for the newest Jojo game to play. The story mode is worth playing through on this one though, if you can find the copy on a good deal.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R – 2022
As mentioned above, the original All Star Battle received a remake in 2022 called JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R. The excellent fighter’s improved resolution not only brings the manga style to life like never before but it’s also one of the first times JoJo fans can enjoy the series on the go with the Nintendo Switch. Newcomers looking to dive into the franchise should consider checking this title out, as it’s now available on Xbox Game Pass!
With the series as popular as it has become, you can likely play future JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure games in English. This is great news for Western fans of the series. However, there’s no real reason to bring many of the older titles over, as they are mostly now outdated fighting games.
